Rock and Roll Portland Half Marathon

Image
This year I decided to run the Cascadia race series held by the Rock and Roll Marathon. It is a 3 race series that starts in Portland, Oregon, then heads to Seattle, Washington and finishes in Vancouver, British Columbia. I'm pretty excited about this race series because I've never done or a series before, I'm planning on doing Quadzuki in November but that's quite a ways off yet. When I signed up for the series I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I had to run the Rock and Roll Seattle half marathon a couple of years before but since then I knew they had changed a couple of things and on top of that I had never been to Portland before. So to say the least I was pretty excited to head down to Portland for this race. Anthony and I headed down Friday evening after he got off work so that we could have all of Saturday to explore Portland. We went all over downtown and went to Voodoo Donuts of course and then Pittock Mansion and even Powell books. After all the ma...

A rest day and a stair climb!

Image
All bets are off for today. I went to bed feeling unwell, didn't sleep at all and got up still feeling like poo. I mentally don't want a rest day but my body is screaming at me saying it needs one. Bummer... Sometimes you just need to rest. Recover so you can get back at it! Maybe this little guy will at least put a smile on your face. On the bright side I did just rediscover this climb! I didn't sign up for the Big Climb Seattle this year because I was underwhelmed by it last year. But the ALA Fight for Air Climb looks like it could be fun! " The Fight For Air Climb is a stair climb event - or as some like to call it a “vertical foot race”.  This is a timed event that can be done by the serious or “elite” athlete as well as friends,  family and coworkers. The Seattle Fight for Air Climb is a single climb, but with multiple floor climbing options to climb up to 80, 120 or 160 floors, and is enough to be challenging to the  competitive racer  as well...

Snohomish River Run Recap

Image
Yesterday I ran the Snohomish River Run half marathon and I earned a PR! 2:18:26, took 3 minutes off of my fastest time! As I predicted this year's race was much better organized than it was in the 2012 race. There was plenty of parking close to the race start and the day of packet pick up seem to go very smooth. I was even able to go back to my car to stay warm and get ready for the race after picking up my packet.  All lined up and ready for the race to start! The prerace introduction seemed like it was fun but I was maybe 50 feet away and couldn't hear the speakers so that is something that could have been a little bit different. They went over the racecourse and I couldn't hear them which was sad.  Waiting for the pre race announcements. Race lineup! The race start was a bit confusing I'm just glad that I was towards the back otherwise I think I would've gotten lost! We had a flip our start location from where we were standing for the race introduction to ge...

Snohomish River Run pre-race low down and Half Fanatics tell all

Image
Tomorrow morning I will be departing work and headed straight up to Snohomish to run in the the Snohomish River Run half marathon. I have run this race before back in 2012, their first year. Because it was their first year there were many ... difficulties. For instance the shuttles was so late that my sister and I had to walk down to the start. Which added almost another mile onto the distance for that day and then the course ending up being rather difficult at one point at the "turn around" you repeated the same spot several times and mentally it was just really hard. But I have high hopes for the race this year. There is a new "route" it's almost backward from the original and there is plenty of parking close to the start, only a couple of blocks away. I also feel that they have a better understanding for the requirements of their aid stations , they added a couple more, even more porta potties!  I just know that this year the race will be an amazing event co...

The art of dressing up, for races that is!

Image
I have a secret... I love... dressing up for races! Ok, maybe it isn't a secret but it's something I love to do!  This was my very first 10k, a group of us got together and made matching shirts! The girl on the right, all decked out, even won the costume contest! This was a 5k race for an animal shelter and we went as bunnies! It was Easter weekend, the race wasn't themed but we dressed up anyway.  This was a 10k night race, we had glow everything! I had hair extensions that light up and even LED shoe laces! This race was a 12k Christmas race, I went all out for this one, enough said! This one was a Color Run 5k, so I made sure to have white pants and we made our own shirts again, white of course. This race is the most recent, Huskies vs Cougars. I wanted to do it right and I even ordered a huskies jersey. Purple finger nails and eye shadows included! Dressing up is definitely a way to keep races interesting and is such a great way to bond with friends. There is a thrill of...
