Rock and Roll Portland Half Marathon

Image
This year I decided to run the Cascadia race series held by the Rock and Roll Marathon. It is a 3 race series that starts in Portland, Oregon, then heads to Seattle, Washington and finishes in Vancouver, British Columbia. I'm pretty excited about this race series because I've never done or a series before, I'm planning on doing Quadzuki in November but that's quite a ways off yet. When I signed up for the series I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I had to run the Rock and Roll Seattle half marathon a couple of years before but since then I knew they had changed a couple of things and on top of that I had never been to Portland before. So to say the least I was pretty excited to head down to Portland for this race. Anthony and I headed down Friday evening after he got off work so that we could have all of Saturday to explore Portland. We went all over downtown and went to Voodoo Donuts of course and then Pittock Mansion and even Powell books. After all the ma...

Mountains 2 Beach Marathon

Image
My first marathon, Mountains 2 Beach in Ventura, CA. May 24, 2015. I finally did it! I ran a full marathon. It took a few tries and a couple of last minute bail outs but I finally found enough courage to commit. I know I wouldn't have been able to do this without Anthony, him being there made it seem way less terrifying. The road to my first marathon hasn't been a short one. I started running/working out in 2011 and had my first half marathon in the spring of 2012. I have endevoured to make it for a full sense that first half. It's been a long hard road to get here but I did, and in the end that is all that matters. For our one year anniversary I surprised Anthony with a race entry to the Mountains 2 Beach marathon in Ventura, CA. We had 6 months to train for the race, which, when I presented him with this gift, I thought was plenty of time. Especially since I had been running half marathons for a couple of years by then. But time flew by so fast! We ran the St. Patr...

Pacing Fail

Image
In my last post I announced really awesome news that I was to be a race pacer for the Wenatchee Half Marathon. Unfortunately this did not come to pass, there were some difficulties in trying to find enough volunteers to be pacers. Because there wasn't enough volunteers they had to cancel the pacing part of the race. I had already paid for my hotel room for the race and as compensation for my efforts I was given free race entry. So I trekked over to Wenatchee and had a really great experience, despite the hiccup.  I arrived in Wenatchee the day before the race to go to the race expo. Which I am really glad I did because my entry, along with two of my fellow runners in the Seattle Green Lake Running Groups, registrations were wrong. So I switched them over and enjoyed the expo. I toured around town for a while, going from boutique shop to boutique shop and ended up at a Pub/Bar called McGlinn's and had probably the BEST salad of my life. It was soooo good! And I ...

Crazy Awesomeness!

Image
I have been sicker than I have been in a long time and it's so not cool. All thanks to allergies. They hit me like a ton of bricks every spring but this year especially hard. I haven't hardly run in over two weeks! It's making me a bit worried. I have my first half marathon in less than two weeks that I am pacing! I am so excited and terribly nervous as well. I am so worried that I'll mess up and ruin everyone's race. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I did that!  I will be pacing through Beast Pacing  and I will be pacing in the Wenatchee Half Marathon . A beautiful location near the mountains and along the Columbia River. I am really looking forward to this run. I also have officially just been name an Elite Ambassador for The Color Run Seattle ! I can't even believe that I was chosen! If you haven't run in a Color Run I highly recommend it, it is just a huge party the whole time. Awesome people, blasting music and of course a Color Explos...

Running Groups!

Image
Over the last couple of years I have been officially a part of a couple of running groups in the Seattle area. One of which I officially joined this week, Eastside Runners. Over the last couple of years I've never really been able to attend any of the group runs held by Eastside Runners or the other running group I'm a part of, the Seattle Green Lake Running Group. So a few weeks ago I decided I had enough of the "left out feeling" that I was getting from all of their happy social media. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and I created a run that will be starting in April on Friday mornings which I can attend. It is a little bit nerve-racking creating something new not knowing if anyone actually partake. But I must say I'm not doing this alone, Liz, a member of East Side runners and the Seattle Green Lake Running Group has graciously volunteered to help me co host the Friday morning runs. I'm very excited about this and can't wait to get it ...

Do what you enjoy

What are some of the destination races that you have taken part in ? Or where would you like go ? There are a couple of places that I'd like to go, including the NYC Marathon and the London Marathon but I can't see that happening any time soon. I don't really want marathons to be my main race distance either, I am happy with 13.1 miles, that seems far enough for me most days. I feel like some people in the running world look down on me for not running fulls but I try to ignore them the best that I can. I think it is still an accomplishment to even get out there and try. Plus I enjoy the half marathons, anything longer than that and it usually stops being fun. Basically what I am trying to say is, do what you enjoy and not what others say you should do, but still get out there and be active! Keep on Running!

St. Patrick's Day Half Marathon in Tacoma

Image
Wow, is pretty much the only way to describe today. Anthony and I woke up at the butt crack of dawn and headed down to the city of Tacoma for the St. Patrick's Day Half Marathon. After making a much needed pit stop at Starbucks for breakfast we arrived in plenty of time to pick up our race packets and get ready for the run. This run was especially memorable because it was Anthony's very first half marathon! Looking forward to this day all week I kept checking the weather report only to be met with dismay. 100% chance of rain. The weather report didn't let me down. It seemed as if we were met with more than 100% chance of rain and were out matched by the crazy wind! We were all lined up and ready for the race to begin and we were already thoroughly wet and my feet soaked. The weather didn't seem to phase Anthony, thankfully! He faced the run without hesitation. We started off with the 2:10 pace team. I was pretty excited about running with them but my excitement quick...
